Air Conditioning Issues (and possible fixes)

Summer seems to be hitting hard this year so it’s of no surprise air conditioning quickly evolves into one of the most important aspects of every car. However, such a fiddly piece of equipment can cause many problems. Fixing almost all of them should only be performed by trained professionals equipped with the right tools. If you are anywhere near Bognor Regis, West Sussex, look no further than A&D Autos for all your car air conditioning needs.

Many drivers have an idea that air conditioning (Most commonly known as AC) requires some kind of regular maintenance but few know the tell tale signs of what to look out for if there is a problem. The following guide has been written by our helpful mechanics at A&D Autos, so you can learn how to spot a fault with your air conditioning.

Noises from the AC unit

The only noise should be the fan doing its job. Rattling, screeching and banging are by no means normal and you should get your air conditioning checked immediately. These sounds can be traced back to a number of causes (usually blower, fan or compressor), so if you hear anything out of the ordinary, make sure you visit one of our mechanics as soon as possible.

Bad smell from the vents

Aside from being unpleasant, these can also be detrimental to your health. Bad odours from the vents are usually the result of a bacteria buildup. Luckily, the solution is usually quick, easy and inexpensive. A&D Autos can flush your evaporator using chemicals and vacuum pressures to remove the bad-smelling bacteria and put an anti-bacterial chemical through the vents to make the system cleaner.

Leaks

Although refrigerant can run out after a (long) while even if everything is OK, leaks can leave you devoid of cold air well before the expected time. These leaks can occur in the compressor itself, or in one of the hoses, so you should have a professional take a look and diagnose the issue.

AC does not turn on

Even though it might sound like the worst of them all, it is very likely that the fix is the simplest and least expensive. If the AC does not turn on, the issue is probably of an electrical nature. Firstly, check the fuse and replace it if it is blown (often the most common cause). If the unit still does not work, bring it in to A&D Auto's and the technicians will be more than happy to have a look at it for you and diagnose the fault.

If you are having any issues with your car’s AC or any other system, feel free to contact our team at A&D Autos who can book in your car for an air conditioning check-up.
